Man, 30 arraigned over alleged theft of building materials

The police in Osun, on Monday, arraigned a 30-year-old man, Omotayo Akintola, before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of building materials.
Akintola, who pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of unlawful entrances and theft, was speaking incoherently while in the dock
The Prosecutor, Insp. Akintunde Jacob, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 13, at about 8:30 am at GRA, Oke-Fia, Osogbo.
Jacob said that the defendant unlawfully entered a building, belonging to one Adegboyega, and removed the roofing sheets and also damaged them before he was apprehended.
He said that the offence contravened Sections 451 and 501 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant had no legal representation.
The Magistrate, Dr Olusegun Ayilara, however, ordered that the defendant be taken back to the police cell.
Ayilara also ordered that the defendant be taken to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, to assess his mental state before he could be brought to stand for trial.
