The Minister of Interior, Mr Abba Moro on Thursday announced the re-opening of the sea borders to economic activities during the general elections.
Moro who made the announcement in Koton Karfe, Kogi State said the federal government made the decision based on intelligence reports which showed that the sea borders needed to be kept open.
The federal government had on March 25 announced the closure of the land and sea borders to allow for the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming elections.
The borders are to be closed from midnight of March 25 to midnight of March 28.
“Today intelligence available to us shows that the sea borders would need to go on and that the Nigeria Immigration Service is fully prepared to contain the marginal movement around the borders.
“Therefore, they will still be open to economic activities while the Nigeria Immigration Service has been directed to keep a 24-hour alert on those areas, but I can assure you that everybody is prepared for the elections,” he said.
The minister assured of the preparedness of all the paramilitary agencies to contribute their quota toward the conduct of peaceful, credible and fair elections.
