FG, Ericsson Launch ‘Connect NextGen Hackathon’ to Upskill Nigerian Youths
The Federal Government, in partnership with Ericsson, is set to launch the Connect NextGen Innovation Hackathon, a four-month programme designed to digitally upskill Nigerian youths in emerging technologies.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice-President, Mr StanlMrNkwocha, confirmed the initiative on Tuesday, noting that the programme will be formally launched on Wednesday, February 11, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Nkwocha explained that the hackathon operationalises a Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Government and Ericsson, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Participants will receive hands-on mentoring, undergo an eight-week acceleration phase, and gain practical learning across priority technologies, including 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and sustainable digital solutions.
Head of Ericsson West Africa, Majda Lahlou Kassi, said the partnership reflects Ericsson’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
“Through skills development initiatives and the Ericsson Educate programme, we aim to strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem. Talent development and informed policy dialogue will help address connectivity gaps and enable inclusive, sustainable growth,” she stated.
The hackathon is expected to provide a platform for young innovators to bring ideas to life, while boosting Nigeria’s digital transformation drive and positioning the country as a hub for next-generation technology solutions.
