FG charged to provide enabling environment to help youths succeed

A leadership development consultant, Mr. Adewale Olamoyegun, has called on all tiers of government to provide veritable platforms that will help youths in the country to succeed in their legitimate career paths..

He also urged the youths to refrain from any activities including hate speeches that are capable of disrupting the peaceful co-existence of Nigerians, saying the unity of Nigeria is sacrosanct to development.

Olamoyegun, who is the founder of The YEDA Centre, a youth-based leadership and mentorship charitable organisation, gave this advice in a chat with newsmen in Lagos to commemorate this year’s International Youth Day, saying that is the only way that youths can become useful to their families and the society in general.

He said by now, government should be able to evolve and deploy new strategies that would encourage youths to see hope in their future and that of the country and not hopeless situation like many of them foresee today.

He said government should not only include youths in policy formulation and implementation, but to also create job opportunities and reserve certain important leadership roles exclusively for them in the corridors of power.

He said it was youths and not the adults that know and understand better where shoes are pinching them and their constructive views should therefore be sought mostly on matter concerning them.

Olamoyegun, an author of “Leadership Guide for Youths,” equally urged federal government to review the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme and its other related schemes and the school curricula to reflect the current economic realities that would take Nigeria to a great height.

He however stressed the importance of practical knowledge and skills on economic and political issues, emotional intelligence, peace-building, conflict resolution, mentorship and leadership roles to be provided for youths, saying such would greatly help them to behave acceptably and contribute meaningfully to the country’s development.
