FCTA land allocation: 1000 C of Os ready for collection, says AEGIS
The Abuja Geographical information System (AGIS) has announced that in order to respond to people plight in irregularities made by previous administration in land allocations, the Administration has rolled out about 1000 Certificates of Occupancy in furtherance of commitment to clearing more than 80 percent of the backlog of inherited obligations on land issues.
The Director of Land, Malam Hussein Jibrin Adamu, gave this indication while responding to inquiries from The Abuja Times in his office.
By this initiative, said the Director, the present FCT Administration under the leadership of Malam Muhammad Musa Bello was making good its pledge to Nigerians to enhance effective service delivery, transparency and justice in the processing of land titles.
The Director, therefore, called on the members of the public whose Certificates of Occupancy were undergoing processing to contact the Department to confirm the status of their application.
He expressed hope that the collection of the Certificates of Occupancy would shore up the internal revenue of the FCT Administration as those collecting their C of O would usually be required to clear the necessary payments before collection while presenting the necessary documents evidencing title.
According to him, the Department was given marching orders by the FCT Minister to clear the over 780 cases of double allocations inherited from successive FCT Administrations. They were also directed to expedite action on all revocation issues that required alternative plots as well as pending court case and others, before the end of the year.
Malam Adamu appealed to members of the public affected by some of these irregularities to rest assured that succour is on the way and that justice would be served as promised by the FCT Minister.
The minister of the FCT, until recently, was at a dilemma on how to administer the errors in land allocation, thereby putting in place a land allocation review committee headed by the Permanent secretary.
