The business accomplishments of outgone Director, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA)’s Department of Outdoor Advertising and Signage (DOAS), Dr Babagana Adam, took centre as encomiums were showered on him at a send-forth organized in his honour by the department in Abuja.
Dr Adam recently took office as Permanent Secretary (PS), Health Services and Environment, in FCTA following President Bola Tinubu’s endorsement of his appointment (and those of seven others) by FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike recently.
At the send-forth, Acting Director, DOAS, Mohammed Abdullahi Sunusi, led the outpouring of good words, describing Dr Adam as a solid achiever.

In his goodwill message, Sunusi noted that, aside massively jerking up the revenue generated by DOAS, some of the other achievements include: efforts to digitize the processes of obtaining application forms and all payments; DOAS, on behalf of FCTA, became the one-stop shop of the FCT Inter-Departmental Committee on the Processing and Approval for telecom masts in the nation’s capital; routine city clean-up through the removal of illegal signages and posters; and accreditation of new outdoor media practitioners which paved the way for aspiring new businesses to thrive in the FCT advertisement space.
According to Sunusi, Dr Adam, who became DOAS Director in May, 2019, also mapped out strategies that helped in the payment of long-accumulated debts owed by practitioners, thus greatly improving FCTA’s internally generated revenue (IGR); and continuous professional development of staff, evidenced by the increased number of Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON)-registered staff from one to 15.
The Ag. Director further listed the other achievements as ongoing efforts to acquire a large expanse of land to build DOAS’ permanent head office and house billboard structures seized from sites for one reason or the other; as well as the principles of hard work, dedication to duty, passion, commitment in discharge of duties which he instilled in staff.
He described Dr. Adam as “a beacon of inspiration for all of us at DOAS and, by extension, everyone who strives to achieve excellence. Through his purposeful leadership, he has transformed challenges into opportunities, setbacks into stepping stones, and dreams into reality.”
Speaker after speaker also spoke of the good deeds of the celebrant.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary, who was accompanied by his wife, expressed gratitude to Almighty God, staff of the department, and stakeholders present for organising the send-forth and sparing time to attend.
Pointing out the keys to success of any leadership, Dr Adam said success is determined by followership, adding that one can not succeed if followers are not goal-oriented and possess team spirit.
He thanked the DOAS management and staff for their cooperation and team spirit, saying that was the kernel of his successor.
