Fayose, Sani, blast Govt over increase in price of petrol

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, and Shehu Sani, former Kaduna Central Senator, have condemned the recent increase in petrol price to N151.56 per litre.

Daily Times had earlier reported that the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC on Wednesday announced the increment.

The new pump price is expected to take effect from September 2, 2020.

Reacting to the announcement of the increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Fayose took to his twitter handle to condemn the development.

He argued that it is not ideal for government to support increase in the price of PMS when other countries are adopting measures to cushion the economic difficulties occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic.

“Petrol is now N151.56. The increment was made when other countries are adopting measures to reduce the effects of COVID-19 lockdown on their citizens.

“Just in case those who led the Save Nigeria protests across Nigeria during the PDP govt of Jonathan are not aware. I warned” Fayose said in a tweet.

Also reacting, Sani mocked the irony of the up and down variables in the country which has seen undesirable increments as well as unwanted reductions within the last few months.

“What’s going up; Foreign loans, Electricity tariff, Fuel pump price, Cost of Data, Cost of Rice, VATs, Tuition fees, Cost of living; What’s going down; Value of the Naira, Foreign reserve” Sani wrote on Twitter.
