Excitement is now trailing an historic day in Lagos. On Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the Eko Convention Centre, a new queen will emerge, as the day will witness the crowning of a new 41st Miss Nigeria, when the management of Daily Times Nigeria Limited, publishers of The Daily Times newspaper, who as the franchise and the organisers of Miss Nigeria Beauty Pageant, will unveil the new holder of the crown to Nigerians from all walks of life.
Miss Nigeria is an annual beauty pageant show which showcases positive attributes of Nigerian women.
It is instructive to note that Miss Nigeria pageant is the only beauty show without the swimsuit contest as the platform celebrates women with intellect rather than mere beauty.
The winner portrays exemplary qualities of women and serves as a role model for young women in the country. The pageant is organised annually by Daily Times Nigeria Ltd.
The first edition of the Beauty Pageant started in 1957 when then Miss Grace Oyelude, a northerner from the present Kogi State by origin and by birth from Old Kano State, represented the state and emerged as the over-all winner.
The pageant is an event of unity and not a display of nudity as being portrayed in some quarters, as the programme has zero tolerance for nudity.
Conscious efforts are being made by the organisers to standardise the programme to unite the nation as an indivisible entity through inculcation of national virtues, pride, value and morals
in the contestants. Participation is not restricted to any faith or part of the country.
The organisers are currently working in conjunction with National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to eradicate the social vices plaguing the credibility of the nation and destroying virtues of young women, therefore causing Nigeria a bad image abroad.
This is done in line with encouraging the young ladies to engage in scholarship and productive ventures through the Miss Nigeria Beauty Pageant’s annual event.
Print media veterans who had in the recent past administered the programme while in Daily Times includes people like Akirogun of Egbaland and former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba, Prince Tony Momoh, Chief Onyemah Ugochukwu and a host of others who are all billed to grace this years’ event.
