Ex-Youth leader assassinated in Anambra
The people of Obosi, a sprawling suburb of Onitsha, the commercial nerve center of Anambra state have been thrown into confusion following the alleged assassination of a former palace (Imeobi) youth leader, Mr. Ezeugo Ikeomu, popularly called Zion.
Sources close to the Obosi community in Idemili North local government area of the state said that Ikeomu met his untimely death while relaxing in a drinking joint at Umuota village of the suburb.
According to impeccable sources close to the community, three men who drove in a Mercedes-Benz Car 190, trailed him to the beer joint, where they shot and axed him to death.
Said the source “on alighting from the car, one of the assassins stripped himself naked, removed his shoes, made straight to Ikeomu at the beer parlour and started shooting him at close range before the two others who were with axes joined and killed him instantly before they zoomed off.
When contacted to confirm the incident, the Obosi Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Mr. Patrick Ozoemena, declined comment but managed to only say “the corpse has been deposited at St. Edward mortuary Obosi, and one suspect has been arrested at Chico Area of Obosi.”
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garba Baba Umar, when contacted said he was far away in Abuja and asked newsmen to get in contact with the State Police Command, Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Nkeiru Nwode, who up till going to the press has been unable to say anything about the assassination.
Ikeomu narrowly escaped death last year when he was shot by suspected assassins adjacent to the Obosi town hall.
