By Charles Onyekwere

A federal lawmaker representing Ohaozara/Onicha and Ivo federal constituency of Ebony State in the House of Representatives, Livinus Makwe, has advised youths in the area to embrace agriculture and entrepreneurship.

He said this will make them gainfully employed and become job creators. The era of waiting for non-existent white collar jobs in the country are over, the lawmaker stressed.

He disclosed this at a two-day training and empowerment workshop on entrepreneurship and agriculture for youths and women of the constituency.

The programme was held in conjunction with the Nigerian Cereal Research Institute Badeggi, Trutech Global Investment Services and Longine International Limited.

Held at Osborn Hotel Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area, the event featured 100 participants drawn from the three council areas of the constituency.

“Many youths are not interested in going into agriculture because they believe that agriculture is still the same system of using hoes for cultivation.

But this time, we try to make them understand that they should use modern equipment.

We have also made arrangement to assist them in that area once they are ready,” he said.

A participant, Comrade Raymond Okoro, who is the Youth President of Ohanivo Forum, commended the lawmaker for the initiative, saying: “We have benefited in numerous ways.

We have been trained in entrepreneurship and agro programmes such as aquaculture.

I am going to invest in fish farming which I know is very lucrative because it is something that is needed all year round. When I do that, it will help me to empower others.”
