The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom state, Mike Igini says sensitive election materials for the state remains intact for the rescheduled polls in the state. Igini told correspondents at the weekend that despite the postponed elections, materials for Akwa Ibom state are still in the custody of the Central Bank of Nigeria for security reasons. “The good news for Akwa Ibom is that before rescheduling this election, we were in CBN and had finished stacking when the news rented the air. In Akwa Ibom, our materials are intact and had not been compromised. “We were together with party agents late last night and they were happy that we have not moved out our sensitive materials,” Igini said. He said that Akwa Ibom state was ready for the elections but that the polls cannot hold in isolation, saying that the state would wait for other parts of the country that could not get their sensitive materials. “There is no reverse logistics, everything is intact. We regret what happened and call for your understanding; it is for the good the country. From the disappointment of today, we are going to do Nigerians proud particularly in Akwa Ibom. “We regret what happened we apologise to Nigerians. We must be true to Nigerians, in the operational reality we have to postpone the elections,” he said. The resident electoral commissioner however, noted that there was no issue of federal might in the postponement and confirmed that the commission’s vehicle was burnt Friday night while waiting to convey materials.
