Edo guber aspirant offsets 25 patients’ hospital bills

A governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Sunday, paid N1m in medical bills for over 25 patients at the Central Hospital, Benin City.
The gesture was part of his activities to mark this year’s Easter celebration.
Many of the patients that benefitted from Obaseki’s generosity were those that had been treated and discharged but they were held back at the hospital because they could not pay their medical bills.
Obaseki, who was accompanied by his wife, Betsy and other party chieftains, visited the male and female orthopaedic wards and the children wards.
The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Omorodion Uwadiae, said it was a painful decision for the hospital not to let go the patients because of their unpaid medical bills.
Obaskei also assisted patients who could not buy prescribed drugs.
Explaining why he chose to celebrate Easter at the hospital, Obaseki said he could not stay back at home, when there were needy people at the hospital.
The APC aspirant said it was also to celebrate the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ for humanity’s sake.
According to him, “The spirit of Easter is about giving and celebrating the sacrifices of Christ. Rather than stay at home and enjoy, we should make some sacrifice for those who are less privilege and cannot afford to be with us because of they cannot be discharge from hospital.
“We thought we could come here and highlight the issue of people not been able to pay their medical bills.”
