1. N/East Senator tasks security chiefs on ways to tackle terrorism 

…advocates kinetic, non- kinetic  approach, revival of  Civilian Joint Tax Force

Amidst renewed terrorist attacks, insurgency and general insecurity in parts of the country, a serving senator has advised newly appointed security chiefs on tactics to confront security challenges.

The Chief of defence staff, Major General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar all scaled Senate’s Scrutiny on Thursday the 13th of July 2023 when they were confirmed as the new hierarchy of the Nigerian Military.

2. Oyo House approves Makinde’s request to appoint 20 special advisers

The Oyo State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, granted approval to the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, to appoint 20 special advisers. 

The approval was sequel to a letter of request forwarded to the House by Governor Makinde, which was read on th floor of the House. 

3. Gov Fintiri honors late Tukur, renames Abuja Road to immortalize him

Governor of Adamawa State, Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has renamed the popular Abuja road, one of the major roads in Yola Town, Yola South Local Government area of Adamawa State in honor of late Dr Mahmud Tukur.

The road which was officially renamed during the late Lamido of Adamawa, HRH Aliyu Mustapha days to Lamido Sanda Road from Abuja road is formally renamed in honour of Mahmud Tukur.

4. HoR ready to probe I50,000mts stolen crude Oil, burnt vessel

The House of Representatives has resolved to set up an Ad-hoc Committee, to investigate what becomes of 150,000 metric tonnes of stolen crude oil ladened in the recently burnt Vessel MT TURA in Escravos River, Warri, Rivers State.

The House therefore, urged the security agencies of the Federal Government to desist from further setting ablaze vessels laden with stolen crude oil.

6. Senate to investigate N6.5 billion contract by NDDC to save Ayetoro from ocean surge 

Senate on Tuesday unanimously voted to conduct an investigation into the N6.5 billion-shoreline protection contract awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) with a view to finding an alternative solution where necessary, to stem the incessant ravaging ocean surge in Ayetoro community in Ondo State. 

7. AA chieftain challenges INEC over alleged doctored NWC list 

National chairman of the Action Alliance(AA), Kenneth  Udeze has condemned attempts by some staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission( INEC) to allegedly tamper with the list of the party’s National Working Committee on the commission’s website. 

Udeze, in a letter to the INEC chairman, Yakubu Mahmood, by his counsel, Emeka Ozoani (SAN), alleged that some unscrupulous staff of the electoral body, allegedly replaced his name with that of Adekunle Omo-Aje, as the national chairman of the opposition party.  And owed to explore all legal measures to bring all those involved to book, noting that illegality will not be allowed to stand. 

8. Erosion: Senate raises alarm, want FG to address  menace in Edo, Anambra 

Concerned about havoc wrecked by  devastating erosion that is ravaging communities in Edo and Anambra states,  the Senate, on Tuesday, charged the Federal Government to urgently address the live threatening menace.

This was consequent upon deliberations by Senators  during plenary on three separate motions which centred on erosion.

9. Nigerian politicians advised to accept defeat in good fate.

Nigerian politicians have been advised to adopt the Niger State model of accepting defeat in good fate in line with the spirit of togetherness and sportsmanship.

Special Adviser, Political and Strategy to the state governor, Mal. Muhammad Nma Kolo gave the advise when he interacted with newsmen in Minna.

10. Bauchi Gov sacks LG Caretaker Chairmen 

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has ordered the dissolution of 20 local government Caretaker Committee (CTC) chairmen in the state.

As contained in a press release signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, the order takes immediate effect.
