Don’t Disrupt The Peace In Ondo State, Police Tells Politicians

Police in Ondo State has warned members of the political parties against disrupting the peace currently being enjoy in the state with less than six days to the governorship election.

It specifically frowned at the supporters of the opposition party in the state over the recent disturbance of peace that caused pandemonium among residents.

Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State had on Tuesday caused heavy violence at the capital city of Akure.

The violence occurred when supporters of Messrs Segun Abraham and Rotimi Akeredolu, both aspirants of the APC clashed at a sponsored rally in the state.

During the melee, many were injured and properties destroyed while the fracas lasted for the timely intervention of the cops in the state.

But speaking on Friday, the State Commissioner of Police, Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison, frowned at the attitude of the opposition party’s supporters over the melee which occurred at party’s office.

Ibifuro-Harrison said the police would be neutral in all its dealings concerning preparation for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

She spoke at a stakeholders meeting with leaders of political parties in the State in preparation for the November 26th 2016 governorship poll.

The Police Commissioner explained that the timely intervention of the security agencies in the state safe the violence incident from been degenerated.

“If the Police was not on ground we would have dead bodies by now in the state.

“Even the state would have been engulf by Fire.

“But, we are doing everything possible to ensure such mess doesn’t occur in the state again”.

She berated politicians and leaders of political parties for using innocent youths in the state to foment trouble and to cause mayhem.

“It is wrong if you gathering people together to cause violence while you are ruining their future”.

Ibifuro-Harrison further tasked politicians to eschew violence and thuggery in preparation for the election exercise.

She also told all aggrieved politicians in the state mostly in the opposition parties to seek redress in court rather than taking laws into their hands.

“Take your case to the level of the judiciary and not to the level of recruiting thugs.

“Because the police will deal with anyone caught in an unwholesome act and nobody is above the law” the police boss said.
