Delta Assembly probes firm over shoddy project execution

The Delta State House of Assembly has taken steps to uncover allegation of fraud and other related act surrounding the shoddy project execution at Asaba International Airport.
The Assembly Committee on Works, headed by Mr. Evans Ivwurie on Thursday confirmed to journalists in Asaba that the House had taken steps know how the huge sums of money for the Airport was utilised.
In his words: “the House condemns in strong terms ULO Construction Company for allegedly collecting huge sums of money for the Asaba International Airport Runway Project without executing the project to specification and time”.
Evans Ivwiere led committee noting that the era of collecting public funds without executing the project had gone, expressed vexation over the alleged poor site, and assured Deltans of the preparedness of the committee to ensure that all ongoing projects across the state were executed according to the contract agreement.
Expectedly, the Delta State Government had awarded the runway reconstruction contract to ULO Construction Company in the cost running into millions of naira after the Airport was downgraded by NACCA over its failed runway and others.
But the House Committee noted that ULO failed to keep the “gentlemen” agreement with the state government by collecting funds without implement the agreement to the letter, adding that barely 11 days to November 27 2017, slated date for the project completion, only 25 percent of the project was completed.
While stressing the project to the socio-economic advancement of the state, Ivwurie said that the House would always implement its oversight functions with a warning that erring constructors must face the wrath of the law.
But ULO’s site Engineer Jerome Adeyemi in a swift reaction assured of meeting the targets despite the observations by the Assembly Committee on works.
