DELSU sanctions seven lectures, sacks one over plagiarism

Authorities of the Delta State owned University (Delsu) Abraka and Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee (SSDC) of the university have sanctioned seven senior lecturers  for alleged gross
misconduct in relation to plagiarism, while another’s appointment  was terminated for failing to show remorse for the alleged offence.

It was gathered that the affected lecturers had earlier been warned on issues that bordered on plagiarism by the university authorities.

Those affected are Dr. (Mrs.) Ruth.O. Arisi (Department of Social Science Education). Dr. Robert.O. Isikwenu (Department of Animal
Science),  Dr. Edward.I. Odokuma (Department of Anatomy and Cell Bioogy)
and Engr. (Dr.) Ken. M. Oghenejaboh (Department of Chemical Engineering).

Others are Dr. O.Nat. Eriemo of the department of economics, whose appointment was terminated,  Dr. O.Eddy Idise (department of languages
and linguistics) and Dr. O. Eddy Idise (department of microbiology),
It will be recalled that the governing council of the university had, at its 98th regular meeting held on Thursday, November 17, 2016, considered the report/ recommendations from SSDC. It was gathered
that, after due consultation with the relevant authorities, the
council approved the sanction. The sanctions, for some, took  effects from the 2015 appraisal year when they were due for promotion, while the lecturer whose appointed was terminated took effect from November
17, 2016
Meanwhile, no fewer than eight lectures were promoted professor or reader after recommendation from the appointments and promotions
committee (Academic) of the Delta  state university (DELSU), Abraka.
The governing council of the university had, at its 98th regular
meeting on November 17, 2916, considered the report by the committee and approved the promotion of the lecturers.
The lecturers are Dr. Christ.O.  Ojieh reader (history and
international relations ), Dr. C.N Egbuchua Reader (Agronomy), Dr. Edward .M.V. Mojaye Reader (Mass communication), and Dr. Daniel Emojorho Deputy Liberian (university Library).
Others are Dr. O.Patrick. Ajaja, Professor (curriculum and integrated science), Dr. Nat. Mowarin, professor (English and literary studies); Dr, Ifeanyi .A Amata professor (Animal science); and Dr. N.E Edema,
professor (Botany).
Their promotion  takes
effects from October 1, 2015, respectively.

Confirming the Story, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof.
Victor Peretemode said: “Committee responsible for such act did its work and submitted recommendations which were acted upon.  The lecturers were indicted and have been found culpable, necessary
punishment were meted out on them”,

But  one of the affected lecturers, Dr.  Arisi said all allegations against them were untrue, adding that they were just victims of circumstances
