COVID-19: Bauchi imposes 10 days total lockdown on 3 LGs

The Bauchi state Governor, Bala Mohammed, has imposed a total lockdown in three local governments of Azare, Giade and Zaki in order to contain the spread of coronavirus infection.

The governor while speaking on Sunday, on the update on COVID-19 pandemic, said the remaining 17 local governments will remain under partial lockdown.

He said that the total knockdown will take effect from Tuesday next week by 6pm to enable the people of the area get prepared.

Bala, who said 44 positive cases were recorded in the state as of yesterday, noted that they were all community transmission from those who brought in the disease from the neighboring state of Kano.

He said that he has directed his deputy, Senator Baba Tela, who is the state task force chairman, committee on Lassa fever and COVID-19 to relocate to the affected area for three days until the entire three local governments are decontaminated.

On the death figures in Azare, Bala said over 120 people died in the area in the last 30 days, due to childbirth, old age and terminal disease.

The governor therefore, apologised to the people of the three affected local governments for any inconveniences the total lockdown will cause, urging them to cooperate with the government in its efforts to contain the deadly virus.
