COVID-19: Bala appoints 66-man palliative committee

In his efforts to cushion the effects of COVID-19, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has approved the appointment of a 66-member committee on palliative.

A press release from the office of the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Gidado said that the committee is expected reel out modalities on how materials, both in cash and kind would be collected from individuals and donor organizations, and how to distribute same to the needy in the state.

The release which was issued on Sunday, noted that the committee has the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji (Dr.) Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu as chairman.

It said further disclosed that the committee has members drawn from the political class, religious circle, business community, seasoned administrators, union leaders and philanthropists among others.

The committee, according to the release, has the permanent secretary, political as secretary.

The terms of reference of the committee according to the release include, sourcing for assistance in kind and in cash from well-meaning members of the public, corporate organizations, government agencies and international donors.

Others are distribution of all sourced palliative materials and money to the needy citizens of the state as fairly and equitably as possible.

The press release pointed other terms of reference of the committee to include discharging any responsibility as may be referred to it by governor, from time to time and to submit periodic progress report to the secretary to the state government on a weekly basis, while final report should come after the state is declared COVID-19 free.

The statement noted that the committee will be inaugurated by Governor Mohammed, on April, 27 at the Command Guest House, Bauchi.

He expressed confidence that members of the committee will bring their wealth of knowledge and experience to effect the discharge of the task ahead of them.
