COVID 19 And Nigeria’s Hearts of Gold

For almost a month now, most parts of the country have been on lock down due to the deadly Corona Virus that has threatened healthcare infrastructure all over the world. The lockdown which has affected Lagos, Ogun and the nation’s capital Abuja has bitten a lot of families especially those that depend on daily wages for survival.

Rivers state the country’s oil and gas hub became the first state to be on lockdown owing to the emergence of the first index case.the way and manner in which the Rivers state governor has supervised the lockdown has ensured that the incidence of the Covid 19 virus has been pegged at just two cases and if reports reaching us from the state is anything to go by, then it seems the state is free from the virus owing to the discharge of the two persons who had earlier tested positive to the virus.
When the threat of the virus first became a matter of public concern, some members of the elite class as well as some corporate organizations made public their decision to donate to the government as a way of showing their commitment to the fight against the deadly scourge. while some of us saw this open donation to a government whose commitment to transparent usage of the donated funds is suspect, some persons as well as religious organisations opted to donate directly to members of the society. While some religious organizations circled their contributions to only members of their fold, others opted to use a detribalized as well as open way to touch the lives of the people.
Those that chose not to be tied to the strings of tribal or religious sentiments are the people whom I refer to those Nigerians with the true heart of gold. They deserve to be applauded for the way and manner they comported hemselves during the period when their fellow citizens needed them most.
Based on my research on the activities of most men of God in the country, I am proud to state without recourse to been termed a psychophant that the activities of Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere who is the General Oversser of the Omega Power Ministries is worthy of emulation.
I was privileged to be part of discussants at a radio programme within the Federal Capital Territory and I must confess that when analysis was made on the activities of some religious groups in the country, the Omega Power Ministries OPM interventionist efforts was given thumbs up ahead of most others not because of the volume of cash he has disbursed but because of the non sentimental way and manner he has carried out his philanthropy.
As it is now, the church operates a free feeding programme for the people not minding if they are Muslims, Christians, non believers or from any particular part of the country. The free specialist hospital which the Ministry operates is still functional without complaint of funds citing the pandemic as excuse the one which interested some callers is the reopening of the farming scheme by engaging youths in mechanized farming so as to cater for the food shortages that may have arisen as a result of the pandemic.
In a well publicized event, the General Overseer of the OPM was seen given out an ambulance to the Rivers state government as its contribution to helping the state respond faster to distress calls against the virus. I believe there are many General Overseers in the country especially in the Niger Delta and Rivers state in particular but it does seem as if this particular man seems to be doing most of the positive things aimed at helping people in need during this most trying period.
The fact that Rivers state aside being the first state to declare that there is no longer any case of Corona Virus in the state can be attributed to the efficient and effective efforts of the government and the cooperation of the people of the state as wel as men with hearts of gold like Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere. May God continue to bless his heart.
For most of my readers as well as callers during the last programme who had wanted to have the address of the church in Abuja, I am happy to inform you that the address is OPM regional Headquarters, plot 1514 Johnson Suleman street Banex- Kado Express way, Abuja.
