Conduct Anambra Central Senatorial election now, APGA BoT member tells INEC

Member, Board of Trustees (BoT) of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, has vowed to invoke the gods of Ogirisigbo and Igbo land against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) if they continue to delay the conduct Anambra Central Senatorial zone election.
Chief Ezeonwuka, who is the Ogirisigbo, said with the Supreme Court judgment which stamped the Appeal Court judgment and the latest judgment by a Federal High Court Judge, there is no barrier again stopping INEC from organising the election.
He wondered why the electoral management body has all the time to announce the Presidential election time-table that is almost two half years ahead but would not set machinery in motion to organise the Anaambra Central Senatorial election which does not have a Senator in the Senate of the Federal Republic since 2015.
The Anambra Central Senatorial zone has not had representation in the Senate since the Appeal Court removed Mrs. Uche Ekwunife and barred her and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from taking part in the subsequent election.
She however appealed the judgment to the Supreme Court which dismissed it on the ground that the apex court has no jurisdiction, since the Appeal Court has the ultimate jurisdiction in Election Petition pertaining to the National Assembly. This effectively sealed the hope of Ekwunife.
But Sharon Ikeazor of All Progressives Congress (APC) went to a Federal High Court, asking it to order INEC to take her as replacement to Dr. Chris Ngige who has declined to contest since he is now a minister in President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
Ironically, the Judge who ordered that INEC should include PDP in the election, made a U-turn in the latest judgment disqualifying APC since Ngige is not contesting because the processing of filing papers has gone.
In his response to the judgment, Chief Victor Umeh, who is the APGA candidate, said that with the judgment, the coast was clear for INEC to fix a date to conduct the Anambra Central Senatorial zone election, noting that there was no obstacles again on their way to the conduct of the election.
But Ezeonwuka, who was obviously furious that weeks after the judgment INEC has not announced time-table for the election, rather was releasing that of the Presidential election that is still almost three years ahead, called on the INEC chairman to as a matter of urgency begin the process of conducting the Anambra Central Senatorial election.
He expressed disappointment that it does not border INEC that for two years now a particular Senatorial zone does not have a representation in the Senate, stating that whatever has a beginning must have an end and this attempt to frustrate APGA and Chief Umeh has come to an end.
“People in INEC have made enough money. They should come and conduct this election with immediate effect. Any further delay will be dangerous. They will suffer for it because the gods of Ogisisigbo, APGA and Igboland will deal with them,” he warned.
