Computer engineer bags 5 months jail term for stealing ATM card

Kaduna – A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced a 28-year-old Computer Engineer, Sunday Michael to five months imprisonment for stealing ATM card.

The convict, who resides at Ali Akilu Road in Kaduna, was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, impersonation and theft of ATM card.

The Magistrate, Umar Ibrahim, sentenced him to five months imprisonment with an option of N20,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crime.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, had told the court that Blessing James of Sabin Tasha, Kaduna, reported the matter at the Barnawa Police Station on march 1.

Leo said the convict and two others now at large, conspired and paraded themselves as housing agents to the complainant.

According to him, the complainant took the defendant and his accomplices to Guarantee Trust bank to get some money for them, but instead the convict stole her ATM card.

The prosecutor said that the defendant attempted to withdrew money with the ATM card, but was caught.

He said that during police investigation, 14 different ATM cards were found in the possession of the defendant.

The offences contravened Sections 59, 142, and 319 of Kaduna State Penal Code Law.(NAN)
