Cleric commits part of pension to evacuation of refuse in Taraba

Worried by the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in some parts of Jalingo, the Taraba state capital and the inability to evacuate same, a cleric with the United Methodist Church in Nigeria (UMCN), Rev. Yakubu Shehu, has initiated a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) the ‘Ngila Global Concept,’ saddled with the responsibility of evacuating refuse from drainages to put to check their hazard to the lives of the citizens.
Performing the inaugural ceremony at Mayo-Gwoi area of Jalingo, the founder, Rev. Shehu said the idea of initiating the concept was borne out of his desire to compliment the efforts of the state government in sanitation and in keeping Jalingo, the state capital clean.
The cleric added that it is obligatory for all and sundry to live and maintain a healthy clean environment; saying people who live in clean environments are not easily attacked by sickness or disease.
“I find pleasure when an environment is clean and tidy,” he said.
The founder, who is a Pensioneer, expressed his willingness to commence the evacuation of refuges and draining of drainages with his staff and other volunteers from Mayo-Gwoi community of Jalingo to other parts of the local government.
While calling on the State and Jalingo local governments to partner with the Organization to enable it expand and succeed, Rev. Shehu added that his staff will be paid with the meager resources accrued from his pension.
Delivering a short Sermon before the audience, Rev. Samuel Sule, Director of Evangelism, UMCN Southern Nigeria Annual Conference, who spoke on the theme, “Put God incharge of your Work”, took his text from the book of Proverbs 16:1-3.
He urged Christians to embrace cleanliness as it is next to Godliness.
While extolling the founder for the enterprise, Rev Sule described voluntary sanitation exercise as true evangelism and encouraged him to keep the spirit.
“The issue of sanitation is a must for everybody, I therefore, call on the entire community to embark on voluntary sanitation exercise for it will bring glory to God”, he said
