Cab operators applaud Gov Ugwuanyi

Operators of the Coal City Cab in the state have applauded the safer roads initiatives of the Enugu State government which they said have brought sanity and security for commuters.

The Chairman of the association, Mr. Ken Ugwu disclosed this on Tuesday in Enugu during a safety workshop organised by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport, Mr. Peter Ajah.

Ugwu said that members of the association were appreciative of the various reforms so far implemented in the sector which had seen the employment of no fewer than 200 road traffic enforcers.

He said that the decongestion of the various traffic flashpoints in the state capital which defied solutions over the years was another significant milestone.

He said that the cab operators had been some of the greatest beneficiaries of the benevolence of the state administration, adding that they would fully support future aspirations of the governor.

“The governor has shown himself to be a good manager of human and material resources. He cares for the needy and is a great supporter of the poor.

“We, hereby, appeal to the governor to consider presenting himself for re-election in 2019 as our members and entire families shall support such aspiration,” he said.

Ugwu said that the governor had promised to procure 300 commercial vehicles for members of the association and appealed to him to fulfill the promise.

Earlier, Ajah said that the aim of the workshop was to equip the cab operators with modern traffic trends in line with international best practices.

The personal assistant said that the state government was passionate about the safety of commuters and had previously engaged other stakeholders in the sector.

He said that it was gratifying that the cab operators had thrown their weight behind the governor, adding that such was a pointer that Ugwuanyi reckoned with all strata of the society.

“They have noted how good the governor has made our roads and have requested him to continue with the good works.

“It is also necessary to point out that this administration frowns at any form of extortion by traffic enforcers. We must make life easy for the cab operators and others”, he said.

Ajah said that the government viewed the security of commuters as paramount and would continue to provide the enabling environment for them
