Buhari reiterates commitment to fight corruption, flags off re-election campaign in Bauchi

President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his commitment to continue with his administration’s ongoing war against corruption in the country if re-elected as president of Nigeria in February 16 this year. The president stated this on Saturday while flagging off his 2019 re-election ‎campaign amidst mammoth crowd who thronged the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi to witness and show their support and loyalty to his candidature. He said, “I urge you today, the people of Bauchi State to support us in our efforts to rid our country of those who want to come back to power and continue to loot our collective wealth. We will also sustain our current effort of ensuring massive food production by revamping the agricultural sector”. Speaking, the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole debunked insinuations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the Presidency is using public funds to campaign for the 2019 re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari. Adams who said that the opposition are angry because all avenues of stealing public funds have been blocked by President Buhari added that all those who looted the country dry during sixteen years of PDP government will be brought to book. He said, “PDP is broke and want to come back to power to continue to loot, that is why they are saying that there is poverty and hunger in the land. Don’t vote for them, they just want to deceive you”. The APC national Chairman while receiving 18 decampees from other political parties to the APC said, I want to present to you these brooms, a symbol with which president Buhari is using to sweep away all the impurities in Nigeria. I am urging you to cast your votes for all the APC candidates across the country to sweep Nigeria clean for the good of all”. According to him, the decampees include former Bauchi State Governors, Adamu Muazu and Malam Isah Yuguda, former deputy governor AbdulMalik Mahamoud, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), Alhaji Babayo Garba Gamawa amongst others. Speaking on behalf of the decampees, former Bauchi State Governor, Mallam Isah Yuguda said they have realised and identify with the laudable achievements of the APC led administration in the country under President Muhammadu Buhari. He said, “What God has destined must come to pass. We appeal to you, Mr President to forgive us our wrong doings while we were in other parties, please forgive us. From today our loyalty to you is one hundred percent “. Yuguda who promised not to forsake the president again maintained that, “we are with you and the governor as well and we will succeed by God grace”. The Campaign Director of the APC Presidential candidate, Mr Rotimi Amaichi said in a remark that Bauchi state is the traditional home of President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC as such, they don’t need to campaign or solicit for votes. While thanking the people of Bauchi State for their love and loyalty to the party and President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr Amaichi promised that the president will not fail Nigerians if given the second mandate. The Bauchi State Governor and the APC guber candidate, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar in his speech, assured that the people of Bauchi will give hundred percent of their votes to the President. While thanking APC supporters for the massive turn out, Governor Abubakar said no presidential candidate has ever been given number of votes from the state like President Buhari. The Bauchi State APC chairman, Alhaji Uba Ahmed Nana had earlier while presenting the 18 defectors to the National Chairman of the party said, “these people you see are stakeholders from various political parties who have seen the achievements of your party and have decided to decamp to APC”. “Nigerians have noticed their contributions to the socio-economic development of the country and have come today to tell the world that they have abandoned their former political parties for the APC”. ‎Nana said.
