PDP insists no division ahead of November convention

Umar Damagum, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says the party is not broken and there is no division ahead of the national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan.

He made the declaration at the inauguration of the National Convention (Main) Planning Committee at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

Damagum said the train for the convention has taken off and no one can stop the motion.

Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi and chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, said the party will no longer tolerate dissenting voices that could disrupt the smooth planning of the elective convention.

He said anyone not in tune with the party’s progression is at liberty to form an opposition.

The PDP caucus in the National Assembly also pledged solidarity with the party ahead of the convention.

Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of Adamawa, is chairman of the planning committee. Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, is deputy chairman, while Peter Mbah, governor of Enugu, is secretary.

In his acceptance speech, Fintiri said the 119-member committee is ready to deliver a credible and successful convention that will produce leaders to guide the party back to power in 2027.
