BREAKING! Five Soldiers Remanded In Prison Over Attempt To Kidnap A Senator

A Minna Chief Magistrate Court has remanded five soldiers from the 102 GIDs Battalion Zuma Barracks Suleja for alleged attempt to kidnap a prominent politician in Niger state. The incident was said to have occurred, while the politician, Isah Mohammed, was travelling to Abuja on the Dikko – Suleja road on 31st of October 2016.

 According to the First Information Report (FIR) the suspects, one Omorua Chiso, Nkwa Collins, Phips Peter, Sunday John and Abdulrazaq Isa all of 102 GIDs Battallion Zuma Barracks Suleja conspired to commit the offense.

They were said to have confessed to committing the offence during interrogation.

Counsel to the accused persons, Barrister John Agbu argued that the suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty by the court and asked for their bail.

The prosecutor, Sgt Moses Mbaga objected to the bail application insisting that the suspects would interfere with investigation if released.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Mohammed Gimba Gadi in his ruling asked counsel to the suspects to apply for the bail through written application, while also requesting the police to submit their objection in writing.

He ordered the suspect to be remanded in prison custody while adjourning the case to December 5th 2016 for further mention.
