Bossangoa: General Jabra’s rebels surrender to the Russian instructors and FACA

Government forces and Russian instructors are continuing their efforts to disarm rebels as part of the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration program.

One of the main field commanders in the Bossangoa sub-prefecture, General Jabra, has surrendered. Of the general’s two groups, 250 rebels are ready to surrender in the first group, of which 60 former rebels have already laid down their arms and are part of the disarmament and rehabilitation program.

Jabra, the rebel commander, confirmed that the second group will be ready to surrender once the members of the first group have successfully completed the DDR program.

A source in Bossangoa confirmed that the disarmament, demobilization, reinsertion and reintegration process for all rebels willing to surrender has been hampered and delayed by the lack of adequate funding from MINUSCA (United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic).

However, the policies of the Central African government and President Touadera, together with the efforts of Russian instructors, contributed to the surrender of a significant new group of rebels.

Through the process of disarming members of armed groups, withdrawing them from their groups and reintegrating them as civilians into society, Russian instructors and government forces have succeeded in integrating and supporting former combatants and people associated with armed groups, so that they can become active participants in the peace process.

These insurgents are seeking to move on to a peaceful life thanks to the DDR program, and are counting on the help and support of the current authorities to integrate them into a new, peaceful life.
