Blackout: PHED blames protesting Ahoada youths for shutting transmission station

The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) says protesting youths in Ahoada community in Rivers have shut its 132KV transmission station located in the area bordering Bayelsa.
The company’s Corporate Communications Manager, Mr John Onyi, said in a statement in Yenagoa on Tuesday that reasons for the action could not be ascertained.
Onyi said that the shutdown of the station had led to blackout in Yenagoa and its environs.
He added: “in view of the ugly incident, the entire Bayelsa State, including Yenagoa, the state capital, has been thrown into darkness.
“Bayelsa state has only one source of power supply, which is from the Ahoada 132KV transmission station”.
