Behold the champions from Sophia

Students of Sophia Group of Schools (SGS), Lagos, have confirmed that they always live up to the meaning of the Greek word, which the school was named after, ‘Sophia’, that means ‘wisdom’.
The students held parents and other well-wishers spell- bound with impressive theatrical and music presentations during their 31st valedictory service/speech and prize giving day, which took place at the school’s premises, 3, Idowu Ajao Street, Anthony Village, Lagos.
Call it by any name, but for the staff, students and parents of the college, the event was not only a dream come true, but one which had promised to continue every year. “The essence of the presentations is because we, as a school, believes strongly that as leaders of tomorrow, our students need to be properly equipped with of holistic knowledge ”, said Mrs. Kofoworola Williams Lawani-Onitiri, the proprietress.
She congratulated the students for their academic outstanding performances in Lagos State, especially, durng a recent Television quiz in which the students performed very well.
Mrs. Lawani-Onitiri also reasoned that the secret behind the school’s success is its philosophy that when a right foundation is properly inculcated in the students, they can become a veritable tool for creativity, adding that Sophia Group of Schools is working in this direction because it believes in the saying that the ‘’young shall grow.’’
“At Sophia Group of Schools, we are a purpose-built school. We also believe that every child is a star” she said and that the school did not just embark on the programme by chance, but it was a part of its commitment towards developing a holistic education. She advised schools in Lagos to take serious the issue of laying strong academic and spiritual characters in students, and argued that “no nation can develop if the future talents are neglected, especially at the younger age”.
Sophia Group of Schools, according to her, was established in 1985. Since then, balancing academics and creativity has been one of the school’s primary objectives. “We envision this in our curriculum, and that is what these presentations are all about”.
But for Segun Ikuomola, Vice President (Academics), also a teacher, and one of the core facilitators, the event could not have come at a better time. Ikuomola, said that the curriculum of the school is one every parent should be happy with. “We believe that by exposing our students to wide areas of knowledge, it will help them to develop sound academic balance, this is what you see in other parts of the world”.
He advised families to expose their young ones to the school, believing that this could go a long way in helping the child in future.

Earlier, Monday Akpan, the English teacher elaborated on the school’s beneficial curricular activities which are specifically crafted to develop every aspect of the growing child “these activities are designed to give the pupils a broad and interesting education and an advantage over their peers elsewhere”.
To add colour to the event, the students presented processional hymns, philosophical talks, songs by the choir, orchestra, counselling with the presentation of awards and prizes to students later.
