Bayelsa NUJ raises the alarm over attacks on members
Members of the Bayelsa State Council of the Nigerian Union of
Journalists (NUJ) have raised the alarm over the rising cases of armed
attacks against practising journalists and media organisations in the
state.
The concerned members of the NUJ in Bayelsa State said that although they
had carried out their responsibilities in the state without fear or
favour, the rising cases of attacks and brutalisation against
journalists and broadcast stations in the state was a deliberate show of
failed responsibility by security agencies in the state.
The Chairman of the NUJ, Comrade John Angese, who made this known
during a courtesy call on the Special Adviser to the Bayelsa Governor
on Security Matters, Chief Boma Spero-Jack, said that      although media houses
were established to educate inform and entertain the masses, the recent
show of animosity and violence was hindering media houses from carrying out
their duties without any form of molestation or hindrance.
‎According to Angese, the recent violent attack at Rhythm FM and
robbery attack at the state owned Niger Delta Television (NDTV) were few cases out of many.
