Bauchi to Recruit 3,000 Teachers Under the AGILE Project

By Isah Aliyu Chroma

The Bauchi State Government has approved the recruitment of 3,000 teachers to address the gap in the teacher-student ratio in Junior and Senior Secondary Schools across the state.

During a sensitization meeting on the Girls Scholarship Programme with stakeholders in Bauchi Local Government on Thursday, the Project Coordinator of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), Malam Ali Gar, announced this initiative. He mentioned that 2,000 teachers would be assigned to Junior Secondary Schools, while 1,000 would be placed in Senior Secondary Schools.

According to Gar, this recruitment is a vital step in fulfilling the requirements for implementing the AGILE project in the state. “The teachers will be on the state government’s payroll, not directly paid by the AGILE project. They will be recruited from the communities benefitting from the program to ensure maximum participation, ease of monitoring, and enhanced ownership,” Gar explained.

In addition to recruiting teachers, the AGILE project will start Conditional Cash Transfers for 9,000 selected beneficiaries within the next two weeks. The Project Coordinator further stated that the scheme provides a registration fee of N15,000 and a stipend of N20,000 for the first term. Beneficiaries will also receive N10,000 for the second and third terms, provided they maintain at least 75% attendance.

Gar also mentioned that ICT facilities and skills acquisition tools have already been procured for the project. However, only 9,000 out of the targeted 20,250 beneficiaries have been registered in ten weeks. He urged stakeholders to closely monitor school activities to ensure teachers effectively fulfill their responsibilities.
