Bauchi bye-election: INEC distributes election materials, assures free, credible election

In less than 24 hours to the bye-election to fill-in the vacant seat of the House of Representatives member, ‎Toro local government area of Bauchi State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has distributed election materials as well as dispatched election officials to the 11 electoral wards across the Local government area.

Daily Times reports that at the time of filing this report several election materials were being distributed in preparation for the election today (Saturday).

The bye-election is coming following the election of the former occupant of the seat, Alhaji Lawal Yahaya Gumau on August 11, into the Bauchi South Senatorial District after the demise of Senator Mallam Ali Wakili.

In the election, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and the biggest opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are the two parties that will lock horns today to determine the winner of the vacant position.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Bauchi state, Mallam Ibrahim Abdullahi yesterday told Journalists that the electoral umpire under his supervision in the state will ensure that free and fair election is conducted.

Our correspondent observed that during the distribution exercise, the local government was calmed and normal businesses were being conducted with INEC officers busy distributing the materials,

while the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi personally monitored to ensure that the needful was done.
