Bank robbery claims 5 lives in Imo
At least five people, including a robbery suspect, were reportedly killed in a broad day bank robbery on Wednesday in Owerri the Imo state capital. Others killed included three bank security men and a customer who came to the new generation bank to make cash lodgment.
It was gathered that the armed robbers trailed the customer to the bank premises at Wethedral Road before killing him and carting away his money. Scores of people were injured and taken to various hospitals.
The corpse of the robbery suspect was brought to the police headquarters, Owerri as the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, moved to the scene of robbery incident with his squad and other armed police men.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Andrew Enwerem, was unable to confirm the number of causalities when contacted saying that his office is yet to receive details of the robbery incident.
