Asaba vigilante operatives arrests 6 suspected cultists
No fewer than six suspected cultists were in the early hours of Friday arrested by men of the Asaba Community Vigilante Operatives during their routine service.
The suspects, the vigilante boss, Chukwuedo Nnamdi, confirmed, have allegedly been responsible for various attacks, and rape of girls in Ogbeke Square area of Asaba in past few weeks.
He said that the suspects upon interrogation confessed that they were also responsible for the rape of an 18-year old lady at gun point around Umuagu last weekend. He said that the suspects have been handed over to the police at the ‘A’ Division Police Station.
It was also reliably gathered that the suspected cultists have also allegedly killed a popular trader (name withheld) who operated at the popular Ogbeogonogo market after a prolonged quarrel which ensured between her and they (cultists) at her residence, Ogbeakeze Quarters, Asaba.
But the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Youth Development, Mr. Innocent Eseweize, said he had embarked on vigorous campaign against cultism in the state, adding that the campaign against cultism in the state.
“The campaign has been taken to some schools in different local government area of the state” he added.
Investigation revealed that cult related activities thrive within Ogbeke Square, Ogbesowa, Umuagu in Asaba; a situation the Asaba community vigilante operatives said has reduced drastically with the arrest of twenty two suspected members of various cult groups last month June, 2017.
