Army/IPOB clash: Family cries out over son’s whereabouts

The family of one Okwudiri Innocent Amaechi from Orlu, Imo state, Nigeria, has cried out over his whereabouts.

Innocent, one of the key members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, was one of those present at Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s Afara-Ukwu country home when the military invaded the place on September 14, 2017.

Kanu, the leader of the group escaped the deadly attack, which led to other of his members sustaining varying degrees of injuries.

Innocent in an interview he granted to our correspondent shortly after the incident, had disclosed that he jumped down from a storey-building in the compound in order to escape arrest.

Speaking then from his hospital bed at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where he spent some months, he said, “I survived by the mercies of God. I had to jump down from upstairs; I did not know I was going to make it alive but God saved me miraculously.”

It was however gathered that his members later took him away from the hospital when it became evident that security agencies were still insistent on arresting him alongside several others.

His elder brother, Mr. Ugochukwu Amaechi, who briefed journalists on the latest development, said their brother was nowhere to be found.

“The last time I saw him was when he called me and said we should pray for him that he is in pains; he said his treatment cannot continue at the FMC, Umuahia because security agencies were still after him.

“But since then, I have not seen him; I don’t know whether they arrested him, but we have checked all the nearby police stations but could not locate him.

“We are pleading with the security agencies to provide information on our brother,” he cried out.
