April 11 Polls: Kwara REC Lists 14 Electoral Offences
Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kwara, Dr Emmanuel Onucheyo, has listed 14 electoral offences a voter may commit during Saturday Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Dr Onucheyo, who said this on Thursday, while speaking with our Correspondent said the Commission was fully ready to conduct free, fair and credible elections on Saturday.
According to him, any person in possession of more than one valid PVC or cast vote more than once, would be guilty of an offence.
The REC said such a person, if caught, and upon conviction, would be liable to N100, 000 or 12 months imprisonment and N500, 000 and 12 months in prison.
Dr Onucheyo said a person who gives a voter money to vote for or refrain voters from voting for a candidate constituted an offence.
He therefore appealed to all voters not to wear or carry anything like badge, cap or symbol of a political party as this also constituted an offence.
The Resident Commissioner advised political party agents and politicians not to canvass for votes, solicit for votes of any other voter or persuade any voter not to vote for any particular candidate.
These, according to Dr Onucheyo, also amounted to electoral offences and carried N100, 000 or six month imprisonment penalty upon conviction.
