Chief Uchendu, a former member of the Imo state House of Assembly and also erstwhile commissioner for public utilities regretted that the zone has suffered neglect and marginalization in the scheme of things as a result of inept leadership.

The bye- election followed the death of Senator Ben Uwajumogu.

Uchendu said that the die is cast for the people to elect a senatorial candidate with the necessary vision, pragmatic ideas and innovation to rescue the zone from its current state of abyss and retardation.

The APC chieftain stated this while on a consultation visit to councilors, ward chairmen, youths and women leaders of the party in the zone during which he unfolded his senatorial ambition.

Uchendu further said if elected, he would embark on agricultural revolution, rural electrification, youth and women empowerment, and the establishment of a university in the area.

He expressed optimism that the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, who hails from the zone and Governor Hope Uzodimma would all support him to bring the vision to fruition.

Uchendu said that with the geographical location of the zone at the bank of the Imo River, he would use his connections to promote agriculture with assistance from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

“We need to restore the dignity of our zone through effective and qualitative representation, and without sounding immodest, I make bold to state that I am eminently qualified to provide this much needed leadership based on my restoration agenda,” he asserted.
