Anambra frowns against extortion
Governor Willie Obiano says his administration will be more fervent in implementing its economic stimulus package in the new year to enable Ndi Anambra ease through present economic recession.
Governor Obiano stated this during a Eucharistic mass held at Mary the Queen Catholic Church, Azia to mark the dedication of their new Church building.
Governor Obiano explained that the stimulus package was announced last year to provide the people with some financial respite in the face of the present economic hardship, especially with the removal of taxes and levies for the very low income earners and abolition of tuition fees and unnecessary payments in Primary and Junior Secondary Schools.
He however observed that some persons have continued to flout the directive by government by going ahead to extort the people, and warned that his government will severely punish anyone caught.
The governor who noted that the State economy is in a stable state due to the strategic steps his government is taking to sustain cashflow into the system, said with the next round of the 20 million naira per community choose-your-project initiative which will commence after the 2017 budget is passed, is aimed at impacting the economy of the rural communities.
Governor Obiano called on the people to always support and pray for his administration, assuring them that he will not relent in working for their good.
Earlier in a homily, the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Most Reverend Hillary Odili-Okeke, who described period of challenge as a time to draw closer to God, urged Christians to be prayerful to God to grant the nation’s leaders the wisdom to steer the country out of the recession.

The Prelate commended the Azia Catholic Community for their efforts in building a house for God, reminding them that service to God will not go unrewarded.
Administration of sacrament of confirmation to some persons as well as special music rendition by the Church Choir formed the highpoints of the event.
