Anambra 2021: Soludo, Ibezim recieve certificate of return

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has issue certificates of return to governor-elect, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, as the winners of the November 6, 2021 Governorship election in the state.
The Chairman of the Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made the presentation at the INEC office in Awka, the Anambra State capital, on Friday.
Yakubu, who was represented by the INEC National Commissioner, in charge of Voters Education and Enlightenment, commended stakeholders particularly the security agencies for their role in the smooth conduct of the governorship process.
He certify that Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), has been elected to the office of governor of Anambra State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at the election held on the November 6th, 2021.
Daily Times had earlier reported that Soludo was returned elected by INEC after polling the highest number of votes in the keenly-contested election conducted on Saturday, Nov. 6.
INEC Returning Officer for the election, Professor Florence Obi, the Vice Chancellor, University of Calabar, declared the governor as the winner on Wenesday morning after a supplementary election, that took place at Ihiala local government area, where election was not held due to security threat in the area.
The election was finally announced at INEC collation centre, Awka.
The governor secured 112229 to beat his closest rival , Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, who got 53,807 votes.
In his address after receiving his certificate of return Soludo said with the level of transperency INEC display during the election, shows Democracy has come to stay in Nigeria.
He thanked the governor, Willie Obiano, for his support, the security agencies, especially, the police for protecting Ndi-Anambra before, during and after the election.
He promised to make Anambra state a foundation of Democracy in Nigeria.
He equally thanks the people for believing in him and his electoral promises.
