A governorship aspirant for the November 6 Anambra State governorship election, Dr.Ifedi Okwenna has warned that justice must be done by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by seeing to the emergence of an aspirant from Anambra South senatorial district as the party’s candidate.
He insisted that power must go to Anambra South, a zone, adjudged to be the largest in the state but has never produced a state governor, deputy governor, or even Speaker of the state House of Assembly in the past 19 years.
Addressing the media in Abuja on Monday immediately after obtaining the expression of interest and nomination form to contest PDP’s June 26 governorship primary, he said every section in the state point towards the southern zone.
Fielding questions on possible zoning of the party’s ticket ahead of the primary, Okwenna said “posterity will judge the PDP if come June 26, a Southerner did not emerge the party’s candidate”.
The two-time commissioner in the administration of Governor Peter Obi, also deandre from the party leadership a non – compromised, free, fair, and credible primary.
He said he will be ready as a party man to support and campaign for any of the aspirants that emerged from a thoroughly credible shadow election process. “I am a party man. I will support PDP candidate to win the November 6 election”.
Okwenna lamented that it is an irony that the PDP is today in opposition in Anambra State. He said the state has been in the years of the locust and it required a determined person to transform the state.
The aspirant disclosed that he has always wanted to be the state governor since 1977 and he has taken his time to learn the political rope in different public and private offices.
“My vision is to develop Anambra into a dynamic state, a prime destination, and a leader among states in Nigeria”, he said.
On his mission statement, Okwenna said “to make Anambra State a leading destination for youth in Nigeria. To make it a centre of commerce, trade, agriculture, industry, science and technology, and a leader in innovation and entrepreneurship development.
“I want to enthrone a system where the government does its job caring for and protecting its citizens anywhere, they may be, a government that restores our pride in Anambra once again, and makes us willing to create and own our narratives”.
