Amotekun arrests four suspected kidnappers

The Ondo State Security Network Operation, codenamed Amotekun, at the weekend, said it has arrested four persons in connection with kidnapping, armed robbery, murder and destruction of farmlands at Jugbere settlement, Sanusi village in Owo Local Government Area of the state.
Commandant of the corps, Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
According to him, the suspects were arrested within one hour of the operation.
Mr. Adeleye, who also declared that no officer of the security outfit got missing or killed during the operation in Owo, said the operation was carried out with the collaboration of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force and the the Department of State Service (DSS).
He explained that there was no crossfire between the herdsmen in the state, but that the security operatives only responded to a distress call from the area for safety.
“Some hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers, illegal miners and herdsmen did not only kill a farmer and a member of vigilante group in the area, but also burnt vehicles and motorcycles of Amotekun corps as well as destroyed farmlands.
“The operation was led by me and supervised by my coordinator in Owo Local Government Area and none of the boys who left the headquarters with me died or got missing during the operation and we went with other sister security agencies,” he said.

He said the arrested suspects would soon handed over to police for prosecution.
The Amotekun boss also said the existing curfew on commercial motorcycle riders in the state from 6:00 p.m. was still in force, noting that his men would start its enforcement on Monday.
He added that any defaulting motorcyclist would be prosecuted for security breach.
“Any Okada, apart from those who are on essential services, found on the road from 6:00 p.m. on Monday in entire Ondo State will be impounded and the owner of the motorbike will be prosecuted accordingly.
“We also want to reinstate the fact the genuine interest of infrastructural development of Ondo State government is being followed and will be, henceforth, adequately protected by our men.
“I want to make a specific reference to our Oja-Oba overhead pedestrian bridge; that we are going to deploy our men there for safety of the people. So, I want to admonish residents to freely use that bridge,” he said.
