Ambode replies PDP, says his projects will campaign for him in 2019
Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, at the weekend said his projects across the length and breadth of the state would campaign for him come 2019.
Ambode, who spoke at a free medical programme organised by the National Youth Council of Nigeria held at Iju-Ishaga in Ifako-Ijaye Local Government Area of the state, was represented by the state’s Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr. Abdulateef Abdulhakeem.
Reacting to a recent statement by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), that it was poised to take over governance in the state come 2019, Ambode said he will not be distracted as he was committed to ensuring that Lagos residents had the best in terms of dividends of democracy.
It would be recalled that the PDP Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr. Taofeek Gani, recently said the party would capture Lagos in the 2019 governorship election.
Gani had described the performance of Governor Ambode as “dismal’’, claiming that “Lagosians are eagerly waiting for the PDP to take over and deliver purposeful leadership.
“We will not be distracted by the statement of the PDP. We will not be distracted by political Lilliputians whose current retrogression has compelled them to operate in dysfunctional way. Lagosians are no longer blind as our projects across the length and breadth of the state will campaign for us.
“Our own government is talking about regenerating the state and bringing people together, so we will not be distracted. My administration is irrevocably committed to the completion of all ongoing projects.
“We have just presented before the House of Assembly a budget size of over one trillion naira, that equals the size of about nine states in the federation. Lagosians are the most enlightened people who are witnesses to the unprecedented infrastructural renewal being witnessed in the state.
“An unprecedented level of voters’ response in appreciation of the good governance that we are bringing about in Lagos State will be witnessed in 2019,” he said.
On the free health mission, Ambode said it signaled the partnership that exists between the people and government, while urging residents to take care of their health and maintain a healthy lifestyle, he also encouraged communities and Non-Governmental Organisations to do their best in contributing to the development of the people, while also commending the organisers for the initiative.
Earlier, Chairman of the state’s Health Service Commission, Dr. Adebayo Aderiye, advised residents to adhere strictly to the advice of their doctors and take advantage of free health care missions.
Also, Mr. Kunle Salami, the Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria in the community said the programme was organised to reach out to the people, especially those who could not afford medical care.
Salami said about 1500 residents were expected to benefit from the free health service. He said two free health services had held previously in other parts of the community, from which about 1500 residents also benefitted.
He added that the organisation does follow-up to ensure that beneficiaries respond and take care of themselves after the health checks. The people were tested for hypertension, diabetes, among other ailments.
