Akwa Ibom to host 3-day symposium on communication, governance

The Association of Eket Senatorial District Media Professionals is set to convene a high-level, three-day symposium focused on the intersection of media, governance, and development in Akwa Ibom State. The event will take place from June 26 to 28, 2025, at Nissi Hall, Eden Hotels Ltd., Eket.
With the theme “Communication Dynamics and Corporate Governance in Akwa Ibom State,” the symposium aims to explore how media engagement shapes transparency, accountability, and effective governance across the state. A prominent sub-theme will examine the corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts of oil and gas companies, particularly their impact on local development and community welfare.
Bringing together media practitioners, policymakers, academics, and industry stakeholders, the event is positioned as a strategic forum for robust dialogue that can inform policy and drive institutional reform in Akwa Ibom.
Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D, will attend as Special Guest of Honour, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to transparency and strategic communication in governance. Also in attendance will be Deputy Governor Senator (Dr.) Akon Eyakeny, who will serve as the Patroness of the event.
The symposium will be chaired by Hon. Frank Archibong, Commissioner for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs, known for his leadership in grassroots administration.

Mr. Moffat Ekoriko, Managing Director of Clear Pearl Communication and a consultant to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), will deliver the keynote address. The event will also feature Senator Ekong Sampson, Ph.D, representative of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, as Guest of Honour.
Two eminent guest lecturers will lead critical discussions: Mr. Ode Udeagha, General Manager of Public and Government Affairs, ExxonMobil Nigeria, Qua Iboe Terminal and Prof. Herbert Batta, Professor of Science Communication & Media Studies, University of Uyo
Other dignitaries expected include Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, representing Eket/ONNA/Esit Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency, and Rep. Martin Esin, representing Eket State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly.
A major feature of the symposium will be the presentation of awards to distinguished individuals for their contributions to media advancement, good governance, and community development.
According to the Chairman of the Association and the event’s Organising Committee, Elder Edet Okpo FCILN, ANIPR, the symposium is a groundbreaking initiative in Akwa Ibom, providing a platform for media professionals to engage directly with policymakers and private sector leaders from within and outside the Eket Senatorial District.
He emphasized, “This isn’t just another event, it’s a strategic intervention to foster dialogue, close policy gaps, and promote a culture of accountability and citizen engagement.”
Key members of the planning team include Professor Peter Eke Eteh (Secretary, Local Organising Committee), Dr. (Mrs.) Idongesit Ashameri ANIPR, ARPA (Protocol Chairperson), and Comrade Jeremiah Edoho (Chairman, Media and Publicity Sub-Committee).
As Akwa Ibom continues to navigate its oil-driven economy, this symposium aims to spotlight the essential role of communication in promoting sustainable development, enhancing corporate responsibility, and empowering the populace through informed participation.
