ACCI pushes for National and State Economic Council

The President of Abuja Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Prince Adetokumbo Kayode (SAN) has asked the federal government to develop a National and State Economic Councils that will trigger economic activities at the local communities.

Kayode made the plea ysterday in Abuja during his decoration as the 10th President of ACCI.

The ACCI President who was a one time Minister of Justice, Labour and Defence said that he will evolve a policy that will drive entrepreneurship down to the grass root which will transform into prosperity for all.

He said, “We will move from an amorphous organogram to a structured organisation. We are setting up a Secretariat with four centres: Business Entrepreneurship Skill and Technology Centre (BEST), The Abuja Trade and Convention Centre, Policy Advocacy Centre and Digital Resolution Centre.

“Government at all times must imbibed that ideal that governance is for the welfare of the people. And to achieve this, there must be a national vision.

“The current government is the first regime to try to give a feat to the National Economic Council. At the sate level, the State Economic Council does not exist. We advocate for this body in the state. The economy of Nigeria and that of the state has to be planned through these bodies.

“We want to urge both federal and state governments to fully establish and operationalize national economic councils and state economic councils. That is the body that will help to plan the economy and end the practice of reaction where critical policies is more or less determined by panic or rule of tongue economics.

“Since the constitution places the responsibility squarely on the shoulders of the Vice President, we want to urge him to use his sagacity to get the economic councils both at the national and state levels to work” Kayode stated.
