Abductors of lawyer demand N50m ransom in Delta

Abductors of a Delta state legal practitioner, Chike Onyemenem (SAN) have established contact with his family members demanding for N50 million as ransom

Chike Onyemenem was last Saturday kidnapped around the Utulu Junction along the Asaba -Benin Expressway by a group of armed men who were said to have forced him into their waiting car and drove away to an unknown destination.

But, the Police Commissioner in the state, Adeleke Adeyinka, who confirmed the abduction of the lawyer to journalists in Asaba, said that the police were on top of the situation and that the police will ensure his release unharmed.

Police sources said that the abandoned vehicle of the victim was recovered on Sunday morning inside the bush with the windscreen damaged.

In the early hours of Tuesday, family members of the victim who did not want their names in print said that the abductors had established contact with them and were demanding for N50 million ransom, while negotiations were still ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Delta state Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspected kidnappers in Asaba. The police said that the suspects are currently being detained at the state CID for further investigation.

The state police commissioner confirmed that the suspects were arrested on Monday morning based on intelligence gathered by men of the anti -kidnapping unit of the state police command.
