Hisbah arrests man over alleged alcohol smuggling in Jigawa

The Hisbah in Jigawa state has arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly smuggling and sale of alcoholic drinks in Kazaure Local Government Area of the state.

Hisbah Commander in the state, Malam Dahiru Ibrahim, confirmed the arrest to newsmen in Dutse on Wednesday.

Ibrahim said the suspect was arrested with 548 bottles of alcoholic drinks in his car suspected to be smuggled from the neighbouring Kano state.

He explained that the suspect was arrested on February 17 at about 2:30 pm in Kanti Quarters, Kazaure Town.

“On February 2, the Hisbah operatives in Kazaure succeeded in arresting a 60-year-old man smuggling beer in Kazaure. He was arrested with 548 bottles of beer in his car suspected to be smuggled from Kano,” he said.

The commander added that the suspect has already been charged to court.

Ibrahim, who emphasized that consumption of beer remains prohibited in all parts of the state, urged residents to obey the law.

It would be recalled that Hisbah had on February 11 arrested 34 suspected commercial sex workers and three men, as well as confiscating 147 bottles of beer during a raid at Gada joint, in Kazaure Local Government Area.

It also arrested 22 suspects and confiscated 349 bottles of beer in Gumel Local Government Area of the state on February 17.
