Police parade ATM robbery suspect, others in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has nabbed one Emmanuel Onuma, 34, for stealing N14 million from an ATM gallery in Garki Area of Abuja.

The suspect allegedly broke into the ATM gallery, carted away the huge sum of money midnight of October 19, 2018.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Valentine Olumese who paraded the suspect in Abuja on Wednesday, revealed that Onuma was an employee of a new generation bank in Abuja, and was sacked earlier for fraudulent activities.

“In furtherance with an ongoing investigation, the police operatives attached to Garki division arrested on Emmanuel Emeka Onuma who broke into the ATM lobby of a bank located in Garki on 19th of October, 2018 at about 12 midnight and stole the sum of N14 million.”

“Some of the money he stole from the bank were converted to foreign currency at Abuja and Kaduna for ease of movement,” he stated.

Onuma who admitted to the crime stated that he worked for the said bank for 11 years without entitlements and benefits.

“I worked with the bank for 11 years, no benefits, no settlement, but there is no justification for my action, but it happened’, he said.

The ACP disclosed that nine pieces of Ghana Ceddi, a SIM card and flight tickets were also recovered from the suspect, adding that he would be arraigned in court after investigation.

Among other suspects paraded was a 22-year old man who disguised as a woman, to steal from unsuspecting male clients along Mpape axis.

The suspect, Iliyasu Omika from Kogi was said to have frequented brothels in the area dressed as a woman.

The command said, “He was arrested after his supposed client raised an alarm upon discovering he was a man.”

Additionally, the Police also paraded two arm robbery suspects whom the command claimed were in Abuja for a major armed robbery operation.

Nurudeen David 30, and kolawole Kayode 31, were said to have come from Ilorin to Abuja pretending to be passengers in a tricycle when they were arrested by police on suspicion.

The police said they found one locally made pistol, a dagger and three live cartridges in their possession.
