Again, 3 killed in Plateau, Lalong talks tough, calls for calm

Three persons have been reported dead in the night attacks of Thursday 22nd March 2018 as gunmen suspected to be Fulani Herdsmen attacked Dong Community of Jos North LGA in Plateau State.

 

Our correspondent gathered that the gunmen attacked the community when they laid ambush on the vigilante group of the community shooting sporadically.

 

You will recall that Dong Kassa, Jos North LGA and Rafiki Village in Bassa, were simultaneously attacked last week, two security personnel and more than five civilians were killed in the attack while COCIN Dong Kassa was set ablaze by the attackers.

 

At the time of filing this report, our reporter who visited Dong Village observes that the situation is calm as security personnel have taken over the situation except for fear by residents of further attacks and grief over the lives lost.

 

Public Relations officer of the state police command ASP Tyopev Terna confirmed the sad incident, he said Three persona were killed in Dong attack. “We got a distress call from the community and the commissioner of Police swiftly deployed men to the community and they repelled the attackers, security has been beefed up in the area and normalcy has returned to the area.”

 

Meanwhile Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, has appealed for calm, following the attack last night by armed gunmen in Dong village of Jos North Local Government Area of the state, which culminated in the unfortunate loss of lives of some people in the area.

 

The Governor, in a statement issued on Friday and signed by Hon Yakubu Dati the commissioner of Information and Communication noted that relative calm had been restored to the area following the deployment of adequate security and urged the people to remain law-abiding.

 

Governor Lalong therefore sympathizes with the bereaved and injured assuring that government is taking steps to alleviate their pains.

 

He calls on citizens to volunteer useful information to security agencies that will lead to the arrest of the criminals and also enjoins the good people of the State to resist the temptation of spreading wild and unfounded rumours that tend to aggravate the situation.

 

Governor Lalong also said that security agencies have been directed to do everything possible to smoke out the perpetrators of the crime from their hideouts in order to end the repeated orgy of violence in the state.

 

“Besides the logistic support to security agencies, the state government has already procured 51 (fifty one) operational vehicles to enhance their operations.

 

“This is in addition to the upgrade of the communication gadgets at the State Police Command Headquarters, aimed at augmenting the efforts of the security personnel, some of whom have paid the supreme price,” the statement added.
