Public corporation union suspends one-day warning strike

The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Technical and Recreational Employees (AUPCTRE) branch of the Investment and Security Tribunal(IST) has suspended its one-day warning strike.

A statement co-signed by Mr Ikechuckwu Ogu, AUPCTRE-IST Chairman and its Secretary, Diepiribo Briggs, on Tuesday said that the strike was suspended until Jan. 22 to allow for further negotiations.

The union had on Monday embarked on a warning strike over alleged infractions such as discriminatory payment of staff allowances, non-adherence to Public Procurement Act 2017 and non-adherence to due process.

Also listed are intimidation and victimisation of staff, high-handedness, impunity among others.

“The Labour Relations Committee of IST led by Mr Albert Otesile, waded into the matter and called the union leaders to a meeting.

“They requested for a week to look into the issues raised claiming that the issues involved are unknown to members of the IST.

“The reprieve was reluctantly conceded by the union and the warning strike was called off so that discussions will resume on Jan. 22.’’

When contacted, IST’s Chief Registrar, Habu Saleh, said he was not the right person to comment on the issue.
