NCS Tincan Island Ports generates over N256 billion in 2016
The Tincan Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has revealed that it generated a total of N256,416,708,848.68 as revenue for the year 2016.
According to the controller of the command, Comptroller Bashar Yusuf, who made the revelation through a press statement issued Wednesday January 11 2017, the amount which is lower when compared to that of year 2015 (266,185,188,546.00) was said to be so due to reasons beyond the control of the command.
” The command is statutorily charged with the responsibilities of collecting/generating revenue from all dutiable imports, accounting for same as well as facilitation of legitimate trade. To this, the command, during the year under review bagged the sobriquet of a ‘Benchmark Command’ in view of the various remarkable achievements recorded despite the various challenges of global recession.
“The total figure for the revenue generated in the year represents a marginal difference when compared with the figure for 2015, with a shortfall of less than 10billion attributable to some factors beyond the control of the Command,” the Comptroller said.
Giving the highlights of some remarkable seizure in the year, Bashar stated that based on well profiled intelligence, the command had on the 15th February 2016 intercepted a large quantity of arms and ammunition and had on the March 4 and April 7 2016, and handed over the items to the Department of State Security Service (DSS).
He also stated that the command got an infrastructural face-lift as the office complex which was previously in a deplorable state was refurbished and a well equipped clinic to serve the health needs of both officers and other members of the public was also established in the year under review.
